As mentioned in my previous post, we’re currently on a trip to Hokkaido. Here’s a record of our journey so far.
Departure and Arrival
To start our trip, we utilized an airport flat-rate taxi package to get from our home to Haneda Airport. Due to COVID-19, many parking lots around the airport were closed and are now mostly unavailable for reservations. As a family with young children, driving ourselves would have been ideal, but during peak seasons, this option is rarely feasible.
After landing at New Chitose Airport, we rented three cars and began our journey towards Furano.
Day 1: Furano Adventures
Campana Rokkatei
Our first stop was Campana Rokkatei, where we bought some of their famous sweets. The vineyard and picturesque landscape were a treat for the eyes.
Jingisukan Shirakaba for Lunch
We then headed to Jingisukan Shirakaba for lunch. The menu was straightforward, offering lamb or mutton, kimchi, rice, miso soup, and drinks. The lamb was fresh and tender, without any unpleasant smell, and paired perfectly with their special sauce. It was the best jingisukan I’ve ever tasted.
Shikisai no Oka
After lunch, we visited Shikisai no Oka, a beautiful flower garden. The vibrant, colorful fields were stunning and provided ample photo opportunities.
Hotel Stay
In the evening, we checked into our hotel. We indulged in a delicious dinner featuring Hokkaido’s fresh vegetables, meat, and seafood, enjoyed a soak in the hot springs, and capped the night off with a Sapporo Classic beer before going to bed.
Day 2: Flowers and Fruits
Farm Tomita
On the second day, we explored Farm Tomita, known for its flowers and lavender sweets. The lavender ice cream was a highlight.
Local Fruit Shops
We stopped at some local shops on our way and picked up fresh melons and cherries.
Heading to Jozankei
We continued to our next hotel in Jozankei. On the way, we visited a Seicomart, a local convenience store, where we bought some zangi (fried chicken) and onigiri (rice balls). The zangi was particularly tasty.
Hotel Activities
At the hotel, we enjoyed the pool and had another delightful meal. I’m writing this as I sip on some wine. The kids are having a great time, but the constant activities have them a bit worn out. We’ll need to be mindful of their condition as we continue our travels.
Looking Ahead: Lake Toya
Tomorrow, we plan to visit Lake Toya. The temperature here in Hokkaido is about 10 degrees cooler than in Tokyo, making it very pleasant and comfortable.
